So many of us always ask questions we already know the answers to. How can we feel better?

Your physician would say, “Eat right and exercise.”

Yet for every dollar spent in fitness centres, Americans spend nineteen dollars on cocaine. The reason? Two seconds after snorting cocaine, you feel like superman. Two weeks of diet and exercising and all you feel is sore and hungry.

Instant gratification is something we all know too well. It’s harmless enough if the only thing it leads you to do is pay higher prices at a convenience store. But heaven help you if you demand instant gratification from your advertising!

The business person looking for a financial quick fix will soon discover the cocaine of advertising, a four letter magic chant:
                                           SALE! SALE! SALE! SALE!

Good advertising is painful at first because you don’t see immediate results. The impatient business owner will start with a small dose of advertising cocaine and then get defensive about it: “How can this be bad for me? I’ve never done better.”

But just as a junkie never stops to consider the damage he is doing, a business owner never stops to realize the damage “SALE! SALE! SALE!” does to his business health.

The first dose of cocaine makes him feel great. So does the next one and the one after that. But it takes more and more to get the same effect.

Therefore, it’s almost impossible to convince the addict he’s got a problem, even though he started with only “Twenty Percent Off” and has now progressed to “Half Price.”

Successful companies don’t spend their ad dollars training their customers to wait for a sale.

Online marketers are largely ignorant of the kind of traffic that can be produced with the little banner ad. But you can hurt yourself if you jump into it without knowing the most efficient and profitable ways to approach it. So many costly mistakes can be easily avoided if you resist the temptation to try and do it without having a solid grounding of knowledge. Banner advertising is profitable, but if you want to totally miss out on making cash-flushing mistakes – then continue reading.

A banner ad that is totally clear with its message will at least have that much going for it. Always choose those products, if you’re an affiliate, that you know are solid, and you don’t have to engage in any wavy-hands marketing over. Your work is already cut-out for you before you even begin, and we’re talking about gaining trust with people. Naturally that means the person clicks through and wherever you take them only confirms and validates your banner ad. Make your entire funnel one long consistent experience, and if you do that then the person will feel more comfortable at each successive stage.

However, we will tell you to be very careful that you don’t put too much information in your banners because it will look messy and uncomfortable to the reader. Your message needs to be very clear and easy to understand. If you’re branding your company, we recommend testing with and without your logo because people can see your logo on your site – but test.

There’s not much real estate in banners, so you need to make every pixel count as much as possible. So that’s why you have to make your point as powerfully as you can.

You need to be doubly sure that your site is up all the time so that you don’t lose any valuable visitors. Of course if your funds permit it, then you can get a sub at companies that do that . All hosting companies, we’ll assume, have more bells and whistles than ours.Banner advertising is like all other forms of advertising in that you have to learn how to do it the right way – because there is a wrong way!

This article was just a primer and introduction, and there is more to learn before you get started. No matter how many times you make a mistake, never stop trying and just regroup and hit it again. But making mistakes that you can learn with a bit of studying is not right. Hence the importance of your banner advertising education.

Even if a firm can afford a large scale direct mail advertising and marketing campaign, a small scale version could first be launched to test, track and measure responses and, based on that, to predict the revenue from the more massive campaign. This further ensures profitability. A company can very efficiently measure its return on investment on each campaign.

If a business still does not have a clear idea of the demographics that it should target, it could, perhaps, base its initial mailing on more general criteria such as location. The direct mail advertising and marketing campaign itself could then generate qualified sales leads if it includes a reply function that encourages immediate response.

Through direct mail advertising and marketing, a company can introduce its products or services to prospective customers, establishing better brand recognition and recall. The printed material can give more extensive information that the prospective customer can use as basis for making a purchase decision. The direct mail advertising and marketing campaign can also give the customer several options to purchase the products or services conveniently. An order form could be included in the mailing. The customer can mail back the form immediately. Alternatively, the mail could also include instructions on buying the product or service online or through a phone call. This could lead to an instant sale.

Direct mail advertising and marketing is used not only for prospective customers but also for existing customers, as well. Companies can introduce new products or other existing product lines to current customers. The direct mail advertising and marketing campaign can also be used to provide a venue for feedback and dialogue so as to maintain and further strengthen customer relations. Loyal customers can be rewarded by being informed of new products or sale items ahead of others and, perhaps, by including some discount coupons in the direct mail.

Of course, a direct mail advertising and marketing campaign can be used to complement and even enhance all other advertising and marketing efforts of a company.

Even the smallest business can make the most of bulk direct mail advertising. Some companies have apprehensions about the efficacy of online advertising. Used effectively, the Internet is arguably one of the most interactive, direct response mediums available today. The key is to leverage the medium for what it does best–interaction and direct response. It’s about the right creative message in the right place. How do you make it work? Here’s our top ten tips for an effective online advertising campaign:
1. Business Metrics: What are your objectives? How much does it cost to acquire a new customer? How are you measuring ROI? Determine your metrics for success.
2. Research: Develop a detailed profile of your target customers and research media to determine optimal sites to reach your audience.
3. Location, location, Location: Placement is key. Grab your audience while they are in an environment they are interested in, leveraging another company’s brand power.
4. Be Creative: Target your audience. Use different messaging relevant to each of your target audiences; ensure the creative fits the media. Work with the media properties to identify creative media opportunities–way beyond banners, to really capture your target. Develop creative based on the media plan (and not the reverse!)
5. Call to Action: You have less than 10 seconds to capture a potential customer’s attention. Emphasize what’s in it for them! A call to action such as “Download”; “Free trial”; “Buy”; “Only $9.95″ help increase response rates; Make sure words such as are visible.
6. Landing Pages: After the user clicks on your ad, do they get sent to your home page only to get lost in your website? Landing pages that guide the customer from the ad through the transaction improve the user’s experience, reduce attrition and increase conversion rates.
7. TEST, TEST, TEST: Test multiple creative messages and different placements to get the optimal combination and best results.
8. Third-party Tracking: To ensure data accuracy, use third party ad-serving tracking systems to compile the data so you can make changes and optimize your campaign effectively.
9. Diversify: Diversify and integrate search engine marketing, email, contextual and affiliate marketing for optimal results.
10. Resources: Sounds like a lot of work? You bet it is! Online marketing and optimization requires intense media management to plan, buy, measure, track and optimize the media. Be sure to get a good media partner to assist you with media expertise and negotiation buying clout, and allocate internal resources for a successful program.

How to get better results from Traffic Exchange advertising!

 

You’ve probably heard or read about Traffic Exchanges and what a great advertising venue they are.  They’re almost all free, there are literally hundred’s of them, and they’re actually very fun.  Perhaps you are already using them (if you’re not, you really should be).

 

Advertising in Traffic Exchanges is not a whole lot different than other advertising methods, meaning that you only have a short amount of time to grab your prospects attention.  The average timer in a Traffic Exchange is 10 to 15 seconds.  If you’re not familiar with how Traffic Exchanges work, here is a brief explanation:

 

You join a Traffic Exchange for free (you can upgrade at any time to a paid membership with added benefits, but it is not necessary).  As part of setting up your account, you will add your URL (web-page) that you want other people to view.  Once you have set everything up behind the scenes, you will begin surfing that exchange.  This consists of viewing other members pages for a certain amount of time; anywhere from 7 to 30 seconds.  For every page that you view, you’re given a certain amount of credits (every Traffic Exchange is different).  The amount of credits that you earn determines the amount of times your page will be shown to other members.  The more you surf, the more credits you will earn, and the more times your page will be shown.

 

So, how do you get more bang for your buck, or in this case your precious time?  As I said before, the most important thing to remember in advertising is that you have a very short period of time to capture a prospects attention, and with Traffic Exchanges you literally have between 7 and 30 seconds.  People seem to forget this, which is why I cringe every time I surf and see marketers using their company homepage, or their affiliate sign-up page, or just a cluttered looking page with too much text.

 

If your going to advertise on a Traffic Exchange, a splash page is a must have.  What is a splash page you ask?  Simply put, it is a non cluttered one-page attention grabber.  You’re not trying to make a sale at this point, you’re simply trying to grab the surfer’s attention with an great eye-catching graphic and some compelling text or question.  The page should make the surfer stop and think “Hmmm, that’s a good question” or “Hmmm that sounds so intriguing that I must know more”.  The splash page should peak their curiosity and compel them to want more information, and click your link.  This is the point that they are sent to your capture page which should further peak their curiosity, and collect their contact information.  Then you will have the opportunity to sell to them, or recruit them into your organization, or whatever your ultimate goal is.

 

I use a rotater URL with 7 different splash pages in it.  They are very effective, because they have the following characteristics:

Great eye-catching graphic (makes them stop and actually look) They are very simple and non-cluttered (very easy to read in a short time) Large compelling text (again easy to read, and makes them want to read more) Asks a question that peaks their curiosity (again, makes them stop and think about it) Repetition (repetition builds credibility….more on that below)

 

Another thing to remember is that the average person must view an advertisement at least 7 times before taking action, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results right away.  Just continue to surf and test your splash pages, and keep a great attitude.
